Last time I looked at possibly buying a 5dm3, maybe a month ago, all the retailers were selling the body for $3300. I just looked again today and I see everyone has them selling at $3500. What happened? And why everyone? is there now something new and extra in the 5dm3?

Maybe they are trying to sell off all the MarkII's they still have in the pipe.

The same happened with the new Sony EA50 ... they raised the price in the UK.
It's something to do with regulation. Import / export etc ... I would imagine. Can't really pin point it.

The Japanese Yen has gone up. May 18 the US$1.00 was worth 103.19 Yen. Today US$1.00 is worth only 98 Yen so that's 5.19 cents down. The US importers now have to pay more US$ to buy the same amount of Yen hence they put up the prices. Here in Aust we were getting better that US$1.05 per AU$1.00 but now the AU dollar has dived to US$0.90. We ae are looking at big price increases from the US and re the Yen we have nosedived from 102 down to 88. Not looking so good unless you are an exporter where you goods become cheaper.

In Belgium I don't see any price differences yet, but camera's are usually more expensive here anyway compared to other countries.

It seems like a number of specific items are going up.
The Canon 16-35 f2.8 L is all the way up to the MSRP of $1699 today.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. But, I am also looking at the GH3 the last few days and it has a price drop. So I am not sure about the yen theory. Maybe they raised it seeing the interest grow in the camera. The retailers watch the websites and activity on their products.

Canon had rebates on DSLR/Lens combos that expired in July. For the 5D Mark III/Lens combo it was $200
