I just returned from this year's Pikes Peak race, where I produced a pair of videos for Mitsubishi. Primary camera is a Sony FS100 with a DT 16-50mm f/2.8 and a Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 plus a Sony A77 with DT 35mm f/1.8. Also, more than a few GoPros.

To get in place for the sunrise timelapse in the top video, I had to wake at 1:30am. ;)

Well done.

How many days did you shoot this over?

Thanks, Chuck.

The top video (recap) was all shot on the Sunday of the event. I didn't use any filler from previous runs (the weather up there can be crazy - yes, warm sun and snow within hours of each other). The preview video (bottom) was shot during two practice sessions: Thursday and Friday -- I did a lot of walking up and down the mountain for various angles.

Thats an awesome video mate! Loved it.

I'd love to visit Pikes Peak one year.

For the interview shots, what lens did you use for that? I'm hazarding a guess at the 35mm?

Cheers,
Shannon.

Probably the coolest video I've seen here!

That would be awesome if there was a documentary on the making of the car and all the prep that went in.

Did you get the helicopter shots or were they provided?

Really good job!

Thanks Eric!

I picked up the aerials from the organizer. I heard it was a $5000 fee. (Picked up by the client, natch.)

For the interview, I used the Sony DT f/2.8 16-50 on the wide side - so that's a 24mm FS100 frame equiv to get both the driver and car in the shot.

I've pitched Mitsubishi on doing a full documentary - following the cars development from Japan to the race, but they have yet to bite.

Hi Ryan,

I was having a look at some of the videos on your website in your signature, and loved the Subaru Rally Team "Launch Control" stuff!

Would love to pick your brain on how that was shot / edited in post!

Cheers,
Shannon.

I've contributed some footage to the Launch Control series, but that one is being produced by a friend of mine. My company is representing Launch Control for digital distribution. I am very familiar with the production process they go through, however, and could certainly answer questions about it.
