I may get killed for posting this here, but oh well here goes....I have no knowledge of after effects. I mean no knowledge. That said I need to add a quick title in an upcoming project and I would like to do something similar to the text in the video below. The effect is :14 in and it looks simple enough...I just have no idea how to even get started making such a graphic. Are there any tutorials (yes I've looked with no luck so far) that might address this style of title?

Well it looks simple but there is a whole lot of stuff going on.
You might want to start here;

I was going to suggest the same thing.
Also, look through the effect presets built into AE. There are dozens for text.

The Video Copilot basic training is good, but it's five versions old. It's one of the resources that I link to here ( Getting started with After Effects (CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6, & CC) | After Effects region of interest (http://adobe.ly/bjBT3P) ), but it's not the first that I'd recommend.

And speaking of Todd....
Video2Brain has an excellent Adobe AE CS6 Learn by Video training that Todd K is one of the co-trainers on.

I just recently recorded a 5 part series on getting started with After Effects. It's only about 30 minutes and may help you out. :)
