I'm plugging an Audio Technica ATR3350 into a Tascam DR-05. The sound is good... but holy moley the cable is LONG! Is there anything out there with a cable of less than 5'? I'm talking about mics that do not operate off phantom power... my Tascam says it offers phantom power but whenever I plug an electret condenser mic into it, the sound level is incredibly low and crappy.

I am using RODE PINMIC. The mic sound quality is amazing. The design is so smart there is no visible wire. The cord is not long either. I don't have the exact length with me.
I'm an authorized RODE reseller. If you are interested, I can offer DVInfo member a small discount. :)

I have a real bad habit of forgetting to retrieve my lav mic from the groom after the service - he can be wearing it for a half hour while I simultaneously try to film and gather up all my other gear - I could see the capsule getting lost in this scenario - nice idea though :)

You are not the only one who forgot to get the lav mic back from the groom or officiant. ha! I sometimes just let the groom wear it all day. The new Long-Pin version of the PINMic actually tuck quite well with thick jacket.
