View Full Version : C100 Firmware Update: Feature Requests
Christian Schmitt June 20th, 2013, 05:49 AM Dear Canon,
C100 users would like to see the following features added via firmware update:
- Current clip recording time duration
- free positioning of waveform with simultanious display of audio meters
- changing of position of "red dot" recording icon
.
.
.
Nicholas de Kock June 20th, 2013, 10:53 AM +1 for Current clip recording time duration!
Jason Bodnar June 20th, 2013, 10:37 PM Also add interval recording and more frame rate options please!
Pavel Sedlak June 21st, 2013, 04:47 AM The ISO+ and ISO- custom buttons for changing ISO when you shoot without a hand-grip.
The exposure and CP save in the clip metadata (C100 can save these parameters only for stills).
Matt Davis June 21st, 2013, 09:20 AM +1 for Duration
+1 for Interval recording
+1 for Move Magnification area (though this may be a v2 thing)
+ FIX MALIGNANT 25PSF MODE!!!
+ Spot white-set (choose centre area for white set, not whole screen)
+ AUDIO PLAYBACK ON SHOT REVIEW!!!!
+ Separate levels for single audio input
+ Powered 3.5mm jack (so we can use real microphones with it - 2v excitation/tickle voltage - junior 'phantom power' required
+ A/B/A record (don't stop recording when you open the SD hatch)
+ Allow more flexibility with custom button assignment (I'd like to assign the WB button to the front one currently assigned to one-button AF, but many functions aren't assignable)
+ Negative gain in Fractional Gain (not just ISO) mode
+ 4:3 'portrait iPad' and '9:16' 'portrait widescreen' guides instead of 1.75:1 guide
+ Slower settings for shockless WB settings
Andy Wilkinson June 21st, 2013, 10:28 AM ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING Matt wrote above ^....
....and I'll ask just one more time...1080p50/60 AVCHD 2 please!!!
Still loving the camera though!
Drew Curran June 21st, 2013, 10:30 AM Yes, please give us a proper 25p. The 550d had it so why can't a £4k plus camera?
I know its not firmware related but on the hardware end, I wish Canon would offer a rubber eyecup to attach to the EVF or even an option to upgrade the EVF for a few quid... I'm not holding out for the second one!

Gary Huff June 28th, 2013, 07:40 AM Actually, I'd be fine with just 720p60 mode. With 1080p60, you're going to be hard pressed to find an external recorder to record in that mode, so if it came down to ONLY being either/or, I'd prefer 720 for that reason.
Now, if they would give us BOTH options, that would be awesome.
Nicholas de Kock June 29th, 2013, 05:12 AM Continuous file numbering / naming !!!
+ A/B/A record (don't stop recording when you open the SD hatch)
Gary Huff June 29th, 2013, 07:14 AM Continuous file numbering / naming !!!
This breaks the AVCHD spec, and so won't ever happen. Besides, it's really a non-issue.
Drew Curran June 29th, 2013, 09:37 AM According to Planet 5D blog there's been a firmware release:
Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : Consumer & Home Office (http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer?pageKeyCode=prdAdvDetail&docId=0901e024809259a6)
I'm out so I can't check this out.
Brian Chow June 29th, 2013, 12:02 PM Ditto to all the other requests PLUS:
Allow the magnify to work on the HDMI out as well. A must when using an EVF. I know I can do it with my EVF but it requires me to take my hand off the camera to do it.
Jeffrey Fuchs June 30th, 2013, 12:01 AM 1. Please, please add a auto ISO option!
2. the dial for the aperture a custom button so you can use it to change your ISO if you wish. I mostly shoot wide open all the time so I never really use the dial. It is a real shame!
3. I also 2nd that clip duration should be an option.
Scott W. Thomas July 16th, 2013, 04:04 PM Fix the magnified image so that it doesn't suck so much. ( alias, pixilation issues) the magnification on the mk2 and mk3 is great! why is the c100 magnification so bad.

What, exactly, is this problem? Are you really pixel peeping the magnified view? You can't magnify the image while recording, which automatically makes the MK2/3 magnification way worse than the C100.
And if you say, "I can't focus"...bollocks, I do it every day.
Ben Giles July 17th, 2013, 11:06 AM Never thought I'd hear a Texan say that most English of expletives, "bollocks" - a fine cultural export, I think.
You just made me smile, Gary.
Sorry - carry on talking amongst yourselves...
Ben.

I have both the c100 and mk3 and trust me the c100 lcd image quality is sh#t in so many ways. And the c100 magnified image is woeful compared to the mk3. I'm talking viewing quality not functionality or it's implementation.

Okay, you need to explain exactly why viewing quality of the magnified focus assist matters whatsoever.
The difference between it and the 5D3 is that the 5D3 gives you a second level of zoom. That's nice, but magnified with peaking is all I need.
Bill Weaver July 21st, 2013, 08:55 AM Neither the viewfinder or the LCD are colour-accurate in any way. I would like them to adjust both in the firmware, or at least give us more control in adjusting them.
Matt Davis July 21st, 2013, 11:48 AM Neither the viewfinder or the LCD are colour-accurate in any way.
Absolutely! +1 and all that!
Word to the wise and all that... LCD/VF setup menu gives you Brightness, Contrast, Colour, Sharpness and Backlight. I have wound up the sharpness in the VF.
PLUGE helps to set the correct contrast/brightness, but nothing like having a setup (int and ext) next to your edit suite, rubbing the settings together to make what you see on the LCD match (as closely as possible) what you seen on your monitor.
To be honest, I got to a certain point and gave up. I now have a SmallHD AC7 monitor that I've lined up by eye with my Vutrix edit monitor so I have slightly more than half a clue what's going to be on the edit monitor. I have to say, we've been spoiled by Sony who've worked very hard on their LCD panels on the EX1s (and others I hope).
PS: there IS an R-G-B matrix to play with the colour balance too, but that spooked me too much. It was at that point I purchased an AC7, and decided to continue my delusion that the C100 EVF and the LCD were for letting me know where the camera was pointing. In my little 'gentleman's notebook' I've underlined the fact that at no point can one check WB on the C100's LCD or EVF.
Gary Huff July 22nd, 2013, 03:08 PM Interestingly enough, I've found my Ninja-2 to be more accurate than the built-in LCD.
But I don't worry about it myself. I set WB with a gray card. Shooting to ProRes HQ gives me a lot of flexibility in post, so I get accurate color on set and worry about stylizing later.
