View Full Version : converting a 4X3 DV file to 16X9 anamorphic DV file Ron German June 6th, 2013, 12:04 PM I have to convert with Premiere Pro 6 a 4X3 (letterbox) DV 25 file to 16X9 anamorphic DV 25 file. What are the steps do do it? Thanks Ron Ann Bens June 7th, 2013, 04:15 AM Drop the clip in a widescreen project. and export as a widescreen dv avi. Ron German June 7th, 2013, 01:20 PM Thank you Ann. I`ll try it. Ron German June 7th, 2013, 02:04 PM Ann, it`s weird. The exported file display correctly in Premiere Pro 6 as a widescreen image. But distorted in Vegas 12 (template NTSC DV Widescreen (720x480; 29,970 fps / 1,2121 pixel aspect ratio). Attached frame grab. If I set it as a square pixel (1,000) the image stays distorted but fills the frame. I`m very confused. Ann Bens June 7th, 2013, 02:23 PM The exported file does not show the correct pixel aspect ratio. I do not know Vegas but in Premiere you can interprete the footage and set the correct par. run the file through media info and post a screendump of the analysis http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/nl Gary Huff June 7th, 2013, 10:43 PM Seems like you left out the step of scaling the letterbox 4:3 original within the DV Widescreen timeline to remove the black bars. Ron German June 8th, 2013, 01:23 PM The frame grab refers to the convertion made in Premiere Pro 6 displayed in Vegas 12 - template DV ntsc widescreen. The same file aparently displays ok when watched in PP6 in DV (or QT) ntsc widescreen. Gary Huff June 9th, 2013, 08:58 AM Can you provide a screen grab of the footage from the Premiere project? Are you also making sure your export, which I assume is back to DV .AVI, has the correct pixel aspect ratio set for widescreen? And are you doing any scaling in Premiere? Or just dropping the clip into the timeline? Ron German June 12th, 2013, 09:05 AM Gary The same widescreen anamorphic rendered file in Premiere CS6 that displays correctly in PP6 reproduces distorted when played in Vegas 12. Weird...I`m sure I respected all the paramethers involved in the convertion. Gary Huff June 12th, 2013, 10:43 PM That reply is not very helpful. I am asking for specifics, especially in regards to whether or not you have Premiere automatically scaling images when you import. Have you explicitly scaled the 4:3 letterboxed image to fit the 16:9 display? Have you selected the Widescreen setting in the aspect ratio? Are you exporting to DV .AVI or DV .MOV? Ron German June 13th, 2013, 12:20 PM Premiere DID NOT automatically scaling images when I import. Have you explicitly scaled the 4:3 letterboxed image to fit the 16:9 display? YES Have you selected the Widescreen setting in the aspect ratio? YES Are you exporting to DV .AVI or DV .MOV? DV.MOV As I already said, Premiere Pro CS6 displays correctly the DV.mov exported file (in PP6), while the same file is played distorted in Vegas 12. |
