The early bird gets the worm, and the early wildlife cinematographer gets the bird. Yesterday, I filmed this short video just before the morning sun hit the rocky ocean beach. Within an hour, the beach rocks were heating up, and began creating some very strange thermals. I have no idea who the Bird Watcher was, nor the breed of his dogs. I am sure however, that he was unaware that he was being filmed(I kept only the shots of his back). I used my Panasonic GH2, with no hack. Filmed in 720 60p. I have no external mic, however the bird songs were picked up pretty good the the GH2 built in mic.

The bird species were just to numerous to list.

David, beautiful video. I really like the way you interjected the "bird watcher" into the video. It told a story rather than just watching wonderful shots of birds. Thanks for sharing. I will be in southern Alaska in late August and hope to get shots as good as yours. Bob

Well as a birder myself, I was surprised to see him with two dogs!

Very nice shots. Those birds must really be hungry to let the birdwatcher get that close to them. Even with the foreshortening from a telephoto lens, you can tell that he is very near. Down here, during migration, you can't do that. Approach shorebirds and they are gone the minute they see you. The tamer ones give you maybe 30 feet, but that's all. Excellent work.
