Hello everyone,

Just bought my first DSLR.

Canon 5D MK II's are going for around $1799 in my local area.

$1500 less than the Mark III so I decided to grab one.

I plan on using it mostly for video to go along with my Canon XF100.

Any advice for a newbie?

Should I install Magic Lantern?

Any favorite "film look" presets for video?

Thanks for your help and input.

Wow... Good price.

They are going for $3300.00 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Plus with tax here, it is roughly $3750.00

I thought it would be better for me to save $1500 and put
the cash toward some lenses since this is my first DSLR.

Expensive gear...

Let me know how you like it.

Plan to test mine out today.

I've heard the B+W Circular Polarizer filters are good.

I still have to pick a couple up.

Install Magic Lantern. Do it. You will not want to uninstall it as it helps so much in many ways to set up controls for fine tuning. Zebras, focus peaking, false colours, audio controls the list goes on and on.

Yeah,

Tried to shoot some video today without Magic Lantern.

Hard to focus, get proper exposure, sound etc.

Quality image compared to Canon XF100 but I saw
some aliasing and moire which you don't see with
the Canon XF100.

I guess with both cameras I have the best of both worlds.

To learn manual focusing, I practiced filming my little kids... little buggers never sit still. Then consider an external monitor using a 7" screen to make it easier.
