Some years ago I got a Juicedlink 431 preamp for my Sony Z5u.
Now I'm stepping up to purchase a Sound Device 302 field mixer. Can the 431 be used in this set-up or will it be a wasted piece of equipment to go on ebay?
Before I make the same potential type of mistake in my purchase of a field recorder would someone suggest a good one to compliment the 302 in a range up to 6 or $700 (if this is possible with very low noise or hiss).
Thanks in advance. Melvin

I run my SD 442 into a Tascam DR-680. $569 at B&H and I'm very happy with it.

Hi Melvin, at this stage suggest checking out the new Tascam D60R.
If it works for your requirements, you'll get 4 XLR mics and a recorder in the one box for $350.
The reviews are coming out now, check 'em all out.
Cheers.

4 XLR's ????? I only see 2 XLR's, from what I read the other 2 (Ch 3 & 4) are on a 3.5mm socket into the unit.
ONLY Channel 1 & 2 are the XLR's which can supply phantom power, the 3.5mm socket is channels 3 & 4 which supplies 'plug in power' (NOT phantom)

Ah so, no need to get excited, he already has a 431 and that has 4 XLRs, if he ever needs 'em.
For $350 it's still worth checking out the D60R.
Cheers.

Thanks for your responses and the suggestion of the tascam dr680 Garrett.
Which mixer bags would you suggest I look at that would work well to fit both the sd 320 and the dr680 with their connections to the audio gear wireless receivers, mikes, baw cables, etc. to take on a shoot?
What is a bmc?
