View Full Version : NVS2525 Pro+ and SDHC cards
Mark Morreau March 26th, 2013, 06:48 PM Hello.
Is anyone using an SDHC to Express Card adaptor that works with the NVS2525?
I just acquired an NVS2525, and I cannot find a way to get content from SDHC cards onto the device.
I am trying to get footage from my EX1 onto the NVS2525. SXS cards work fine, but I want to use SDHC cards as well.
When I insert the Kensington 7 - in - 1 adaptor I use with the EX1 into the NVS2525's Express Card Slot, the NVS2525 does not recognise it at all.
I have also tried with an Apiotek 24in1 Express Card, and while the NVS2525 recognises that there's something in the slot, it doesn't see the SD card, and give a very unhelpful error message:
000000-0000-0000
Unknown Device.
I have also tried connecting a card reader to the NVS2525's USB slot, but it rejects it as an Unknown Device.
Can anyone offer any help, please?
Thanks
Mark
Larry Seong March 28th, 2013, 02:23 AM The expressCard I/F(which SxS card using) is composed of two interface, i.e., PCIexpress and USB2.0.
SxS card is using PCIexpress interface to achieve maximum performance.
And those expressCard type memory card adapter is usually using USB2.0 portion of expressCard I/F.
Originally NVS2525 only has PCIexpress I/F and no USB2.0
Support for USB2.0 at the SxS slot is added later. If your NVS2525 serial number is later than NVS5120200000, then it will support USB type expressCard adapter.
But every NVS2525 support USB memory card reader through the USB/eSATA combo host port located at the bottom of the unit. In this case, you need to connect power adapter or external battery to the NVS2525 to power the card reader.
If your firmware is very old version, you need to upgrade the firmware at here. Latest firmware version is V1.53.
Nexto DI - Next Generation Storage with Digital Interface (http://www.nextodi.com/support/en_download.php)

This should work. Try again after the firmware upgrade. Be sure you connected power adapter to NVS2525 when connecting USB reader
Mark Morreau March 29th, 2013, 08:27 AM Hello Larry,
Thank you for your reply.
My serial number is earlier than NVS5120200000, so I guess it won't support USB at the SXS slot.
I now have the SD card reader working OK via the USB/eSATA combo port. I did not realise that it would only work when external power was supplied to the NVS2525. This is not clear in the manual.
Is there a SD to Cardbus adaptor that will work?
I am trying to avoid having to use mains electricity or having to carry heavy external battery packs with me in the field.
Best regards
Mark
Larry Seong April 1st, 2013, 01:26 AM There WAS a supported ExpressCard adapter. NVS2525 supports SD adapter with JMB389 chip set from Jmicron. But JMicron discontinue the IC about 1 year ago. So the IC is not available, so no body can make it.
The supportted SD adapter includes
- SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I ExpressCard Adapter
http://mp3support.sandisk.com/downloads/um/sddr300-um.pdf
But this also discontinued.
Note that this SanDisk also selling SD adapter which works on USB2.0 portion.
Do not confuse with it.

Mark Morreau April 1st, 2013, 05:36 AM Thank you, Larry,
Very informative.
Do you know the SKU of the Sandisk Card?
is it SDDR-300-RG56?
Is this the right one?
SDDR-300-RG56 SanDisk Extreme Pro ExpressCard Adapter for SDXC UHS-I Cards (http://www.memory4less.com/m4l_itemdetail.aspx?itemid=1463809852)
thanks very much

Larry Seong April 1st, 2013, 10:23 PM I think so... The model number is right one.
That should be using Jmicron IC.
But cannot 100% sure because it is 1 year after discontinue of IC.
So if it is still selling, with which IC they making?????
Mark Morreau April 3rd, 2013, 08:06 AM Larry,
Also these people tell me that they have the SDDR-300-RG56 is stock:
JimPower Trading Limited (http://www.jimpower.com/eng/product_details.php?id=159)
USD 30.40 per piece, minimum order quantity 20.
Maybe Nexto should buy a batch for resale to people like me? :-)
Best regards

Steve White May 3rd, 2013, 11:58 AM Hello Mark
I'm also looking for one of these Sandisk Extreme Pro adapters for an NVS2525 - so if you find 18 other people or another source then I'd be interested.
Very informative post Larry, thanks for the clarity.

Steve White July 16th, 2013, 06:41 AM Good news
I bought one of these:
Sonnet SDXC UHS-I Pro Reader/Writer ExpressCard/34
from Amazon (uk):
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004YR8AJI/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
...and it works for copying SDHC cards to my NVS2525. £42
I'm delighted as I've been scouring the internet for the compatible SanDisk one for some time. It works on the PCi Express interface, so is compatible with older NVS2525's (like mine).
Thank you to this thread for pointing me in the right direction.
Mark Morreau July 16th, 2013, 06:51 AM Well, Steve, that's a total result.
Thank you for finding that. Have just ordered one from Amazon.
I'll buy you a pint next time I'm in Bristol!
Thanks a lot
Mark
Mark Morreau July 21st, 2013, 05:13 PM Hi Steve,
Big thank you to you. Mine's working great.... or it was until the HDD on my NVS2525 Pro+ died...
Yes, definitely owe you a pint. Maybe even two ;-)
