They're open today & tomorrow (3/22 & 3/23) from 9am-5pm.
Helix Camera & Video (http://www.helixcamera.com/)
If you live in Chicago & looking for some random items, check it out.
New items don't have a huge discount, but are discounted over what they were. Used items are pretty cheap.
I got a few step up filter rings for $1 each & some Roscor 20x24 gels for $1 each.

WOW, I hadn't heard about this. Man I spent lots of money at Helix on Wabash back in the day. I loved the place. All the great toys and very knowlegdable peeps to help you out. If Helix didn't have it, you didn't need it. Too bad. :-(

I think I read on the site that the guy who owns Helix "Retire, or we're getting a divorce." and he said he didn't have enough money for a divorce, so they're closing down their last store.
Even though they've cleared out of so much of the building, the last room up on the 3rd floor where they have these items for sale is a pretty large room.
I'm sad to see it shut down, although I think they're keeping their online sales going.
If you have a chance, poke your head in tomorrow.

Yep, I picked up a Canon XL H1 in the sale, and just a ton of other things. I kept going back every week for weeks. It's definitely sad, though.

Helix on Wabash? I remember Altman Camera on Wabash. I'd just stand and salivate in the Leica dept. Four floors of photographic heaven. Central Camera also on Wabash hasn't changed in decades.
I spent many legitimate dollars at Helix. Not much on the personality but they had everything.
Hard to compete with places like B&H I suppose.

Ahh, Altman and Central as well. Gosh that was a long time ago. Wasn't Helix on Wabash? Man that was back in the early 70s so I may be wrong but I thought it was on Wabash?! I do remember 3 floors of heavenly merchandise and I also left a lot of saliva on the display cases! ;-)
