Hi folks... As the title indicates, I've been an FCP editor since 1.0.2, currently on 7.0.3 on a 20 month old iMac running OSX10.6.8

Before that, I was an AVID Media Composer 6 (The ORIGINAL 6... I can't keep up with their naming... running on old beige Apple G3 350MHz with Meridien cards...) and later a (poor) Media100 editor.

I work predominantly with a combination of three-point editing and drag-and-drop-to-the-timeline, depending on WHAT I'm editing.

I also use split 2 channel audio routinely where I'll have a lavaliere mic on one channel and an overhead shotgun on another.

I use Sony EX series (EX1, EX3...) cameras and FS series (FS100 and FS700) cameras predominantly with the occasional dSLR footage or GoPro footage.

I'm a verité videographer, not a filmmaker. Broadcast documentaries, training/best practices videos, typically long form.

I currently use a Matrox MXO2LE as my analog and digital IO device in FCP.

My QUESTION is: can someone with similar experiences point me in the right direction for resources to help with this transition? I've already looked at the sticky that links to the Adobe site with hints for FCP users.

The workflow is VERY different on the surface, especially around track manipulation.

ANY help is MASSIVELY appreciated. I didn't even know WHAT to start searching for here at DVInfo.

I recently made a transition from Sony Vegas and have found all the help I need on YouTube and Vimeo. Adobe software isn't always intuitive but after watching a few tutorials a day I'm getting up to speed.

Recommend lynda.com, extensive tutorials for very reasonable subscription price. Also select the fcp keyboard shortcuts option, unless you want to go cold-turkey and learn the Adobe shortcuts....

Battle, I've already enabled the FCP shortcuts, thanks. I keep forgetting about Lynda.

Guess I'm just hoping there is a clear and CONCISE knowledge repository for folks leaving the FCP ship and not having to "relearn" new software... Hoping for a MIGRATION path, I suppose.

There are a lot of specifics you may want to refer to in the Premiere reference --- the three and four point edits, and drag-and drop that you mentioned, for example, are explained step-by-step. You can access the same information live on line from the help tab in the program, as well. The Adobe TV tutorials for Premiere (as well as many other Adobe products) are generally well done and helpful. I was an FCP 7 user at my last job, the transition to Premiere is not as daunting as it looks --- the details are different, but the programs are basically pretty similar. Not at all as hard (imho) as figuring out Final Cut X. ... best wishes with your change, this is a pretty helpful bunch on the Adobe group....
