Hi all,
One of our EX3's recently took a tumble off its tripod and has suffered a bit of damage. I've managed to fix most of the damage but unfortunately the internal bar that locks the front grip in position has snapped. This is the part that connects the 'release' button on the front grip to the internal cog to stop it rotating freely.

I've scoured the internet but can't seem to find anyone selling this part, I'm loathed to send it off to Sony as if I can get the part it's a simple 30 second fix.

Photos of the part I'm talking about and its location in the camera can be found here:

I'm hoping someone may be able to help. Thanks in advance!

Mark

Try this place:

PMWEX3 Repair | PMW-EX3 service| PMW EX3 out of focus | PMW-EX3 NO POWER (http://www.tekmg.com/Sony/Camcorder/PMWEX3.aspx)

I know you are in the UK but they may be able to ship you the part.

The service manual does not show that part as being available separate from the lens itself. Only the record switch and the record button cover are listed parts inside the grip cover.

It is likely your only alternative is to find someone parting out a camera.

Did you talk to a machine shop about the possibility of welding and machining the part to repair it? ( assuming it is metal)

If you can't find a part, I may be able to build one for you. I have an EX1 so if the parts are the same I could use mine as the sample and then send the new part to you.

Hi Mark,

I too have an issue with this part - my camera did not take any knocks but apparently it just broke on its own . I have contacted WTS Video in Barking, London and they managed to find the part for me. I have just been informed today that the part has arrived at their end and will ship it out to me. The cost for the part will be £13.20 Plus VAT and £15 Delivery to Malta. I will let you know how it goes when I receive it next Thursday.

**Updated - actually I've just received the invoice and it has costed me just £14 (VAT inclusive) including shipping! The part no is as follows: Fujinon Lever P47B11976650 **

Hi people, same problem here. Brian I tried twice to write to WTS. I have no answer.

I just received the part and inserted it this morning. A five minute job and the grip is as good as new!

I am attaching a photo of the packet and the part itself.

WTS did take some time before they answered me. Just write to them again and state the exact part no.

Hi Brian the spare part is on the way. One question in what is the right way to put the little spring?

Abis, I forgot exactly how I did it, but I know for sure that there is no complexity - it is a few seconds job to replace one with the other. You cannot get it wrong :)
