I have posted a while ago these pics:
http://dandiaconu.com/gallery/album20/IMGA1961
and the image it produces:
http://dandiaconu.com/gallery/album20/IMGA1967
http://dandiaconu.com/gallery/album20/IMGA1964
I don't have the camera (nor intention to buy it) but the image is one of the best I have seen (slightly better than DVX and Z1)
Not that hard to figure by the looks of the picture displayed on the monitor....
(fourth hand image so to speak)
I mean, we all know enough by now to figure if there are any distortions, vigneting or chroma aberrations even by looking at a picture of a picture of a picture...(I hope) By no means is this an invitation "buy one"! (just for the record).

Am I missing something Dan? Where's the HD100 in those pictures?

Wayne Kinney

Think he may have mixed up the HD100 and HC1.

Think he may have mixed up the HD100 and HC1.

Apparently.

Dan the HD100 is the exchangeable lens, 1/3" HD shoulder camera by JVC.

Dan Diaconu

yep, mixed up. Thougth you were asking about the other one.

Michael Maier
January 8th, 2006, 11:21 AM
I have a HD100, but none of the adapters have shown anything done with it yet.

How much would you make ..."available" for MPIC + relay lens for your camera? Flip or no flip?

Michael Maier
January 8th, 2006, 11:42 AM
Well that depends. Relay lens? Do you have a relay lens?
But does the MPIC work with the HD100? Haven't seen anything yet.

Dan Diaconu

Nooo, not you again! (lol). Mit flip? oder flop? oder MOF! (straight that is!) and a ... "fresh" MPIC on the side (actually on top of zeat).

Hiya,
Had the pleasure of meeting Daniel Morgen from this board today, he travelled here to collect his SG35 ready for his final project at uni.

We managed to get out and shoot a run and gun sequence. Weather was on our side for once. Anyhow, lens was a Canon FD 50mm F1.4. Only problem, is after us adjusting the support system and taking the dvx on and off a few times, a few bits of dust got on the pcx lens, so is on the footage. Good thing is, the lens is a removable part for cleaning purposes.

Below is the link to the footage (right click and save as):

Wayne that's lovely.

It's just amazing how these shots transport you the same way film does.

The music and the old man helps too :)

The footage was very nice even tough shaky. But I still would love to see some uncompressed frames from some SG35 footage. All I have seen are these highly compressed mov. files. I have been thinking about buying SG35 but can't make the decission without seeing some uncompressed footage first.

Not easy to focus on the move with a DVX100 with it's heavy adapter-magnified nose diving forward, no focus assist, and the necessary 90 to 180 degrees rotation of the Canon lens' plus the unwelcome SLR lens breathing . I'm impressed of the result with no tripd and no Steadycam.
Is softness = lack of sharpness ??

Hello everyone,

As Wayne said I picked up the adapter today - Everything seems very nice, sharp and bright. We tried a vivitar 70-205 lens which looked fantastic on the television. I'll get you some grabs from the lens from my shoot this weekend.

Thanks Quinn - as it happens I got my very late delivery of the vivitar zoom and 1.4 off ebay so I took those along with me. Your lens was waiting for me when I got back. My 1.4 isn't ssc. Any ideas which is better? Thanks for the lens anyway.. will let you know how this weekend goes.

Thanks Dan.

I was getting annoyed with people always doing 'quick' tests on these 35mm adapters because it doesnt give u a sense of its full potential. However... ! this was shot in about 10 minutes in a rish to get to the train station. If I was used to the flip (or had a magnet) it would be smoother and sharper.

Very nice...I'm with the "give us high res" camp! There's a few spots in the footage...around 12s. I'm guessing just dirt on the lens?

I'm beginning to realize that our senior citizens often make the best subjects. Sometimes they're crazzzzzy (ask Steve Dinkins) and most times, they're simply majestic. They deserve more respect (like this clip) from our lenses.

OK guys,
I've uploaded some full res clips for you all. Not dv but wmv compressed. dv files are a little big.

Gorgeous clips, Wayne, and no vignetting at all. Can't wait to receive mine...

Just one more thing: did you also try other primes by any chance, like a 24 or 35mm?

Thanks Piet,

Yes we tried a 28mm F2.8, and also a 75 - 205mm F3.5 zoom. All worked great with no vignetting.

Nice footage Daniel and Wayne. Speaking for myself, it makes a big difference when you show higher quality footage. Obviously everyone interested in an adapter is interested in techniques for suspending disbelief, so IMHO showing a hq example should help sell that (big though the files may be). Adding an old timer and good soundtrack doesn't hurt production value either :)

I'm curious...what was that piece of music? Very nice.

I'll be the first to say congratulations. From the footage I have seen of your current adapter I must say it is rather amazing. This new version sounds even better. Wish I could afford either one. Best of luck with this new version.

I'll hopefully be testing out the new optical setup with a DVX100 next week, i'll post footage.

Wayne, good to see you're moving forward with your product...it shows commitment to your clients. Moving to 2 cells will lighten things up nicely too. Are you still using brushless motors (great idea BTW)?

Wayne Kinney
March 10th, 2006, 10:13 AM
Thanks Dennis,

I am no longer using the PC fan motors, its not something i wanted to take into the pro version. The whole mechanism is different for the pro version.

wayne.. can you sell your rod support separately?

Wayne Kinney
March 10th, 2006, 11:59 AM
Andrew,
Yes, most parts will be availible seperatly on the new website, which will be online monday night we hope. You will even be able to purchase the ground glass disks seperatly.

Now THAT is cool Wayne. Allowing the parts to be purchased separately is an ingenius idea. Especially the glass disks. I can see a lot of do-it-yourselfers going for that. Any hint as to how much the disks might be? Or we do have to wait until the site is up? If so, that's fine. I just wondered.

Wayne Kinney

Hi,
Note, that the SG no longer uses a real glass disk, as announce a while back. We managed to source a material that gave better lightloss to diffusion ratio a while back, much better in our opinion.

Hi,
Just an update on the progress of the SGpro. We have finalized the design of the interchangeable lens mounts, currently offering Nikon or Canon FD, with more options to follow.

I agree Wayne, looking very good. And I've been meaning to post that I really respect your decision to overhaul the SG35 after the DVXuser shootout. The light loss (I should say lack of) on your adapter is really amazing. While it was a good product to begin with, I think it's great that you're willing to improve it further. Good luck with the refinements. I'll be following the progress, that's for sure.

Wayne Kinney
March 22nd, 2006, 10:50 AM
Thanks for your comments guys.

Yes I was a little dissapointed with the results of the DVXuser shootout. Footage from both the SG35 and letus seemed soft and smeared, and we all know these units can produce very sharp results. Not sure the reason for this, but Norm will be updating the shootout later, reviewing the SGpro and I think the Brevis35.

Wayne, how long are the rails? I ask cause I was wondering if it would marry with something like the Redrock Follow Focus or other follow focus'

Are there any demo clips?
Will this unit be compatible with the new Sony HC3?

Wayne Kinney
March 31st, 2006, 02:54 AM
Aaron,

The rails are 40cm long for supporting a FF or matte box.

Demo clips for the DVX100, FX-1 and XL2 to follow in the upcoming few weeks.

I see no reason why the HC3 will not work.

Hi,
No, was shot 50i, frame export from premiere. into photoshop and to JPEG. You can see the interlacing in the dog.
