I thought I heard it would be soon For Premiere Pro CS6.03, yes the GTX 680 is supported. Art White December 21st, 2012, 07:29 AM I have CS5. the GTX 680 backward compatible? Jeff Pulera December 21st, 2012, 09:26 AM Hi Art, Go into the Adobe folder and find the "cuda_supported_cards.txt" file and add your card to the list and save then Premiere will use it. For more detailed info do a web search for "studio 1 hack" Thanks Rob Cantwell December 21st, 2012, 09:33 AM heres how to do it; open Notepad as Administrator select file open browse to Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 select the cuda supported cards text file click open you will see a list of supported cards simply add GeForce GTX 680 to the end of the list enter it the same as here it's case sensitive. save and exit your done!! i've done this with my own PC it works a charm Randall Leong December 27th, 2012, 02:08 AM I have CS5. the GTX 680 backward compatible? As some other posters stated, you can "hack" the cuda_supported_cards.txt file to enable this support. However, since CS5 is already in the "legacy" support phase (meaning no new updates), there is a risk that the GPU acceleration might not work properly with some newer GPUs. Rob Perry December 27th, 2012, 10:24 AM You actually don't have to do that "hack" at all... simply delete the text file altogether (I was told to do this directly from an Adobe representative at one of their CS6 roadshow events). Doing so will enable practically any Nvidia CUDA-enabled cards. Whether they end up working better than the software-only rendering is another story. Also, at this past NAB the guy at the Nvidia booth begrudgingly told me that buying a 670/680 is practically as good as a $2000 Quadro card, and that no one actually cares about updating the "officially supported" card list anyway. Art White December 28th, 2012, 11:11 AM Ok, Thanks everyone. I bought the GTX 680 and installed it. A bit shorter than my Quado FX 4800 which could be used for keeping my car from rolling down the driveway.... I had to clear up a few other problems with my computer. 1 HD was shot. Windows registry files were corrupt and a physical SATA wire was severed that I didn't know about. With all that, my computer is working like we are dating! No problems except one I think you folks are helping me with. I haven't done the "Hack" yet because it's beautiful the way it runs right now but I don't have the option for the Mercury Playback engine. It's grayed out. Is the instruction to do the Hack will give me the Mercury Playback Option? The software is doing the job now but I don't know what will happen from here. Thanks tons! Just did my first sequence render. Taking the rest of forever! Might have to go with the "Hack" after this short prodject if that's what the Mercury Engine is all about. Art Battle Vaughan December 28th, 2012, 11:19 PM Art, the "hack" is no big deal to do, it's not black magic but the effect of having the Mercury GPU available will make a world of difference in your timeline render and in some of the gpu-enabled effects. It doesn't affect output, but makes the timeline render very fast. I have a 680M on my edit laptop and never see a red bar on the timeline...after altering the txt file and restarting Premiere, be sure to go back and enable the GPU processing in the sequence setup. I think you will be glad you did. Art White December 29th, 2012, 04:05 PM I hope to do that this week end when I get back to my desktop. A 25 minute multicam took about 2 hrs! (Nice card tho...) Art Art White December 30th, 2012, 08:45 PM Got my Mercury Engine back. The day is saved! Big difference. Art |
