View Full Version : What do you think of this video card for V12?
David Stoneburner December 18th, 2012, 09:16 AM I just installed V12pro on my main computer and noticed that I cannot enable GPU support. My video card is a Radeon 45 something? which is not supported from what I found. There is a great deal on this card
Sapphire Radeon HD 5450 100292DDR3L Video Card - 1GB, DDR3, PCI-Express 2.0(x16)
Any thoughts on the card and any benefits? I don't do a lot of freelance work on my system, so I'm not pulling in the money to go with an expensive card. I'm thinking a little more performance for the price might be nice. Thoughts?
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
Edward Troxel December 18th, 2012, 10:20 AM Whatever you do, make sure you update to a current video driver version.
Jeff Harper December 19th, 2012, 12:49 PM The card will probably not work with Vegas, as far as enhanced performance. It only has 80 stream processors, way below what is needed for it to work with Vegas, I think. The card you refer to is the most basic of cards, sadly.
There is a list of supported cards to enhance Vegas, somewhere, or a list of specs somewhere, but you'll need to spend a lot more than $20-$30 for sure, probably more like $100-$300.
Ron Cooper December 20th, 2012, 05:18 AM Jeff, do you know where I can find this list, as I have just bought a Gigabyte ATI HD7870 2GB PCIe3 which I hope is OK. - GIGABYTE - Graphics Card - ATI - PCI Express Solution - Radeon HD 7000 series - GV-R787OC-2GD (http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4154#ov)

Graham Bernard December 20th, 2012, 06:42 AM Jeff, do you know where I can find this list, . . .
Not sure this is the list being refered to, but it IS a place to start, and it is SONY's(!):

Grazie
Mike Kujbida December 20th, 2012, 06:42 AM Ron, there's some information on this page.
Vegas Pro 12 GPU acceleration (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro/gpuacceleration)
David Stoneburner December 20th, 2012, 01:38 PM Thanks for the info. I didn't think it would but for $20 if I got a little performance boost it would be better then none. I just don't have it in my budget for a $200 plus card. Maybe after my nice side job.
Thanks
Ron Cooper December 27th, 2012, 03:59 AM Thanks Graham & Mike. As I am using VP11 is there any advantage to be gained by using these cards ?
At this stage, for my use, I don't see enough advantage to be gained by using VP12. I don't do color correction or many effects.
Also, I was hoping it might have done higher bit rates for AVCHD but I don't see any changes there either. My new Sony NEX-VG20 apparently records up to 28Mbps but I don't think that VP12 even processes up to 24Mbps. If it does, they certainly keep it a secret !

Kim Olsson December 27th, 2012, 04:20 AM Ron, what do you mean that VP12 even process up to 24Mbps?
Ron Cooper December 28th, 2012, 09:13 PM Kim, Apparently VP11 processes AVCHD at 18Mpps. But I don't know what the new VP12 does. They don't seem to mention it. - In other words, as I see it, if you shoot at 24Mpps, and then import & edit in Vegas, you end up with an equivalent of shooting the original at 18Mpps. Even the low cost Power Director processes up to 24 Mpps.
I think the max standard rate for AVCHD is 24Mpps so I am miffed why the Sony NEX-VG20 can shoot in 28Mpps. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.
Also, does anyone know if DVDA in VP12 is the same as the newly released free upgrade from 5.2 to 6 ?
RonC.
