I found this while researching Sony's HVR-M10 deck:

http://bssc.sel.sony.com/BroadcastandBusiness/DisplayModel?m=10014&p=16&sp=142&id=78440

60i, 50i, 30f, 25f is listed in the "Built-in HD to SD downcoversion" line.

Canon won't say who makes their CCDs (I figure Panasonic, but I'm guessing Sony), but that's an interesting development.

In Sony's recent print adverts for HDV, they're calling the CF modes "Cineframe 24F, 30F" etc. which to me sounds remarkably like Canon's 24F and 30F..... Is it just a bad choice of terminology or something else??

I am 99% sure that the Canon F mode will be superior to Cineframe. I doubt it will look any different to Progressive scan. Bad terminology I think.

I hope so....

I've got a feeling it's frame mode, but hopefully from a CCD running at 48i.

I hope so, too, Graeme. I have a hunch Sony made Canon's chips vs. Panasonic.
