View Full Version : Follow Focus?

I've just enjoyed reading through some great threads with some invaluable information about several aspects of the XF300/305 after searching this forum before starting a new thread. I was not aware of the Alan Roberts (BBC) settings for the cameras, for instance, but have now downloaded the PDF file and am looking forward to trying it out. I also found some interesting information about using remote controls for the camera, which I think might help me get more from my Manfrotto LANC controller.

But to the point. I have today ordered a Tilta T03 base plate. This was mostly after watching Erik Naso’s review of the item on Vimeo. I had not realised how large the T03 is, or quite how versatile — the usual adverts never seem to show it in context. My primary reasons for getting the plate are to make my XF300 easier to use shoulder mounted, and to give me somewhere to attach my monitor. But the great thing about camera rigs is that you can build them over time to lessen the impact on your credit card, and I would like to add a follow focus and matte box sometime soon.

I found a few threads that talk about follow focus in relation to the cameras, but they did not mention specifics AFAICT, and as this area is so dynamic nowadays, with new kit appearing all the time, I thought I’d ask for any good or bad experiences with follow focus systems for the XF300/305. The Cinevate unit looks excellent, but is right up there price wise. I have also discovered that I can get makes like Tilta and TrusMT direct from China via eBay with a considerable saving compared with sourcing the items locally in New Zealand.

Any advice would be most gratefully received.
