I added the "timecode" effect to the clips in my timeline so I could see the original timecode.
Now I want to remove the effect from all the clips in the timeline. is there a shortcut way to do this? Or do I need to select each clip, choose the effect and hit delete?
thanks!

Good discussion here: Adobe Community: Universal deletion of an effect (multiple clips) (http://forums.adobe.com/message/3501142)

Thanks - I guess the answer is "no", I can't remove a single specific effect from multiple clips.

Answer is NO, but....
Pick on clip and remove the effect from the Effect Controls.
Now remove all effects from the rest of the clips as describe above.
Right click on first clip you selected and copy
Select all other clips and Paste Attributes.

the clips have various other effects on them already - but not all the same. I think I'll just need to remove the Timecode effect one clip at a time...

Might want to fill out a wishform.
