I'm looking for a mini DV camera that has 24p, plays tapes, is three chip, and is a less expensive used camera than the DVX-100...I can't remember which models were like the "little brothers" to this camera with the same features but maybe a smaller chip set?

Looking to buy something used for under $500.

The cheapest I can think of is the Sony DSR-PD150 professional 3CCD MiniDv Video Camera but I don't think it had 24p.

None of the PD or VX series offer 24p. Sony DID offer 15 fps...I never did figure that out.

As far as my memory serves there was no camera below the dvx100 price point that could do 24p.

A used FX1 or Z1 may be cheaper than a DVX100. I know that it's not native SD but that didn't stop many broadcasters from using Z1s as cheap ENG and lightweight feature kit.

Canon Vixia HV20. HV 30, HV 40 all have 24p on board, and record to MiniDV HDV. These little cameraa were well respected for budget film cameras.

Adjusting exposure to get a fixed shutter speed requires a bit of trickery, but it can be locked, one accomplished. .

With HDMI out, I can also capture to my Black Magic Shuttle too.

They are however, only single chip CMOS cameras, but I found the image superior in many ways to my 3Chip FX 1.

Doh! how could I forget about those, I know a couple of videographers that still use them and sometimes just for capturing.

Consider the Sony DCR HC1000. 3CCD, mini DV, well built, touch screen with lots of manual features and a slightly better image than a VX1000/2000
