View Full Version : Music video (Canon 600d + Samyang 35 mm)
Mladen Ilic October 24th, 2012, 05:18 AM I make music videos, but most of my clients sing Balkan folk songs, even though I'd rather make videos for more "urban" music... But, a man's got to eat :)
This is a 50 euro budget music video, plus my fee.
The 50 euros were spent for the actress.
I make music videos for almost a year and a half, I started with sony ax2000, then, very recently, I've switched to a dslr. This is my second video that is shot with a dslr.
Equipment used:
Canon 600d
Samyang 35 mm f1.4 (over 90% of footage is shot with this lens)
Canon 18-55 kit lens (used only for some wide angle shots, as an 18mm)
Some old and heavy, but good Vinten tripod.
Flycam 5000 stabilizer
Edited and graded in Adobe Premiere and AE CS6

Mladen Ilic November 29th, 2012, 03:11 PM My newest music video..
I got rid of that heavy, old Vinten tripod and bought a Manfrotto tripod with 701hdv fluid head, and I'm extremely delighted how light but stable it is..
This video was shot only with Canon 600d, Samyang 35 mm 1.4 and Manfrotto tripod.

Raul Castro November 29th, 2012, 11:32 PM Mladen, your videos are very cool. I'm surprised no one has commented on your videos on this board yet. You have some nice cinematographic and editing skills. Also, it doesn't hurt that you have beautiful women in all your videos.
This is my first time listening to Balkan music. I really enjoy listening to it because it sounds very interesting to me.

Mladen Ilic December 4th, 2012, 07:34 AM Thank you, Raul!
I guess this music is very foreign to most people here, not mentioning the language... :)
Mladen Ilic December 26th, 2012, 08:14 AM New video, shot with a new piece of equipment, the Manfrotto 561bhdv-1 monopod.
This monopod is awesome!

Noa Put January 23rd, 2013, 05:05 AM Great stuff Mladen, I know I would have a blast shooting music video's like this. My wife has a very large collection of music and she has a very broad interest in foreign music, like the ones in your video as well. I often hear her playing this type of music. Are there many singers in Serbia that want to have music videos shot like you make and are those often people that perform locally and use the youtube videos on their website for promotion or do they appear on tv as well?
They all seem like low budget films but is there a market for high end music videos where you live?
Mladen Ilic January 23rd, 2013, 09:35 AM Yes, youtube has become the most popular media for music videos, even in Serbia, where few monopolistic TV stations have complete control in promotion. Artists are very interested in making music videos for their songs and there is a solid number of singers who will pay for big budget music videos. The problem in Serbia, and other ex-Yugoslavian countries, is that people who make big budget music video have strong ties with key people from those few monopolistic TV stations, that I mentioned. So when a singer wants to appear on one of those stations they send him/her to their own directors to make a music video because they get a percentage. These directors don't need to try hard to find clients and they don't need to try hard to make good music videos. This is the reason why most of big budget music videos are basically terrible, because the're just expensive and nothing else..no story, bad cinematography et cetera..
But, because youtube is so popular media now, people like me can have more work, and big TV stations are losing their domination....
Noa Put January 23rd, 2013, 09:45 AM Thx for the info Mladen, I find it very interesting to see how videocultures can differ from country to country. Eventhough there is not much interaction in this thread don't stop sharing, even if it's not a kind of music we are all used to :) but I"m sure my wife would love it and I take this any kind of videomusic clip over a clip from Justin Bieber any day :)
Alan Melville February 2nd, 2013, 06:08 AM Mladen,
Well shot.
Mate, I have to say... I idn't understand a word of any of them, and I watched them all! One thing does become evident though, there are very close paralles to the men here in Australia and the men of Serbia, it seems the problem confronting both counties are...women!!!!! ......or, maybe in the case of the last song....men!!! (Warped Australian sense of humour coming into play here :) )
Well done, keep it up, maybe you'll get hit the jackpot and push out the TV stations!

Sabyasachi Patra February 3rd, 2013, 08:20 AM Hi,
I didn't understand a thing. However, liked the tune and the expressions of the lady singing. Liked the energy of the lady, that makes a difference in performances. Your cuts are cool.
Keep it up.
Cheers,
Sabyasachi
