I have a question for y'all....
I'm grateful to Canon for being so timely in their release...funny that after all the bad-mouthing and criticism that they may possibly beat Panasonic to market with their new HDV cam....
like many folks, I've been holding off on purchasing an HD cam until I can see what all of the big four manufacturers are offering, and, as a Canon loyalist, I was most curious to see what they cooked up. Having said that, I am not likely to purchase their camera due to sticker shock.
Still, at last, now I at least feel comfortable moving ahead with purchasing an FX-1, which is more an entry-level HD camera. I think my XL2 will be fine for most of my commercial and web videos for several more years at least, and if I get a crazy wild hair to do a film-out, but there is some outdoor shooting which i would prefer in HD, and hiking up big peaks with a much lighter and higher resolution HD cam would be preferable.
So this is my current thinking, in the aftermath of yesterday's big announcement. I'm curious to hear what everyone else is thinking, in how you are now planning to spend real-world dollars, not in hypothesizing about the plusses and minuses of the camera. There are plenty of other threads dedicated to picking apart the offerings, so let's not do that here.
But what is your next move? What, if anything, do you fellow Canon hold-outs plan to do in response to the outbreak of HDV?
FX-1 seems like the closest possible analogy to an HDV GL2, which is what I was really hoping for. So unless Canon offers something similar soon, I'm that much closer to pulling the trigger.
