It sounds like you are looking at the clip name display. It's one of the best features of all the XDCAM cameras and being able to easily see the clip names while we shoot saves us tons of time in post.
However, it can be turned off if you don't like it.

Go into the OTHERS menu, select "Plan.Metadata," then scroll down to "Clip Name Disp:" and set that to "Off" to turn it off.
