Folks.

Working as a ski coach, i use my nx5U to shoot ski racers, sometimes in warm weather (-1 to -10) other times in much colder conditions.
The racers often want to see their runs in the day lodge, but i cannot show them because the risk is to great to the camera to temperature shock it by taking it out of the backpack.

I would like to hear from anyone who knows of a portable media player that will accept SDHC cards and will play the native 720P MTS files that the camera records.

If i can find something, i would then just remove the SDHC card in the field and then when i get back to the daylodge could pop that into the media player without having to open the case .. problem solved...

No DVD player will play HD files. most especially not the one listed above (which has a ridiculously low-resolution screen too).

I assume you need:

1. A widescreen for viewing, not too big or small, and relatively high resolution (say, 1040x600).

2. Good battery life.

3. An sd slot.

4. Portable; weighs less than 2.5 pounds.

5. Can play any HD file, including even 108060p files easily.

6. HDMI out, in case you have access to a big HDTV.

5. Relatively cheap.

but without obviously purchasing one to try, cannot confirm from the spec if it will play the MTS files... everything else lines up
it is portable, decent screen res, takes SDHC card and cheap enough that if i break it in the field .. i'm not too concerned...

I did find this review someone left on Amazon about the player ...

Many digital cameras have video recording feature (not just for taking picture). Each pause during shooting video will create a video file, like 0001.mts, 0002.mts, etc.... This APMP100F will play these video files but there is no sound. I did some research and found out that these video files are in AVCHD format. It is one of H.264 formats, and is the what many camcorders and digital cameras are using today. AVCHD format uses Dolby AC3 for audio... is what I found out, and apparently this APMP100F player apparently is not supporting it. Perhaps they didn't pay Dolby licensing fee?
Whatever the reason, this was a major disappointment.

It looks like it will detect/play MTS files from a camera.
As i only need video playback and don't care about the sound ... i am going to take a punt and get one to try

Another option for me is to buy a NINJA 2, but more than the dollars .. i do not really want to the extra weight and complexity of adding the NINJA to my camera, as portability is key for me on the ski hill.
** although i do like the idea of a higher quality video 4.2.2 ProRES ...

Mark you are right,I forgot that it had to play HD files.
I wonder if the player Justin found will play PAL and NTSC formats.
