When I try to open Vegas, (Pro 11), just after the splash screen comes up, I get this message -

"Vegas pro has stopped working"

I tried several times over a few hours yesterday, and now this morning, after the PC was shut down overnight it still won't open. PC is a first gen. i7 with lots of RAM running Windows 7. DVDA opens up OK.

unless you made any changes (codec pack, etc.,) it looks like it might be trying to open a corrupt veg?

try opening vegas cleanly (shift click icon? sorry can't remember if that's right)

It's CTRL-SHIFT to reset Vegas to default.

Thanks folks, but this has not worked, so I un-installed the program & did a re-install and it still will not open. - I only get the black initial splash screen & then the message "Vegas pro has stopped working"

I have never encountered anything like this before.

BUT, as a beta tester, I have installed the beta version of pro 12.

However, I thought that last week vers. 11 worked OK after the install but I could be wrong. I did use the beta version OK last week but now it too gives me this problem of not opening.

Otherwise I have not loaded anything else on this PC. I have not been able to do any editing for three days.
Lucky I'm only a mug amateur as I would hate to have to make a living out of editing !

where, if it even gets that far, does the splash screen stop, eg. loading ui, etc.,

Thanks Leslie,

- After about two seconds of the splash screen appearing.

so you don't even get as far as the first 'creating file i/o'?

if so i would suggest cleaning out ALL references to sony in the registry. a bit drastic, but better than having no vegas....

Time to go back--- assuming you have it enabled, and recover your system prior to installing 12. I have installed 12 as Beta tester with out issue so far.

Thanks again, but no luck.
Firstly, Leslie I am a bit touchy about interfering with the registry but I have done a registry clean to no effect.

It now crashes where it says "Updating plug-in cache" whereas before it crashed on loading "Direct X" or something relating to it. Both these messages occur within a few seconds of the splash screen opening.

I have done a system restore and still it won't load up. - So, do I go and get Edius ?

This whole mess seems bizarre.

i know how it feels....

try renaming your plugin folder to say OLD and see if vegas launches (maybe bad plugin).

meanwhile i too am looking very closely at edius. 11 was a nightmare till the last release, now it's just a bad dream. 12 is looking like a point release for 11 but being charged for.

i am thinking that unless scs gets it right, they'll have lost another erstwhile loyal client....

Hey Ron

Do you perhaps still have Version 10 ??? I stay at least one or two version down and use the "e" release and since Vegas 4 I have never had any major issue...your PC will support two versions without any issues ..if it still has a problem them maybe look at your OS????

My 10E is used daily and I have 10 32 bit also installed on my XP machine so I always have a working version!!

Hmm Edius ?? I tried it and found the interface nowhere near as friendly as Vegas ..I still have it on the XP machine but never use it.

Hope you get sorted out

Chris

Thanks Chris, - yes I still have V10 and will try it. Problem though is that I think any projects made in in V11 won't work in V10.

What third-party plugins do you have installed? You might try uninstalling all 3rd party plugins and then see if Vegas starts. If it does, then you can then start installing them back one at a time until it fails again.

Thanks Edward, - the only extra I have is the New Blue Titler that came with VP11. Would you call this a plug-in ?

certainly!

and though i know edward is heavily involved with nbt, it has been noted that 'occasionally' it has proved to be problematic. mind you, when it's working it's great!

Thanks Leslie, I will remove it before I do another re-install of Vegas.

Voila !! She woiks !!

I un-installed New Blue and then found that both versions of Vegas (11 & Beta 12), now open OK. - Didn't even re-install Vegas.

It is incredible how something like this can cause such monstrous problems. I have been fighting this thing for FIVE days. Surely there must be a fix for this.

Thanks again Edward & Leslie & all who tried to help me with this.

Hi Ron

I think an appropriate comment here would be "WHEW!!!" That's a neat warning for those with NBT installed...luckily I don't use it at all!!

Now you can get on with what you were doing and catch up 5 days lost!!!

Ron, I'd be interested if you would test downloading the most current version and installing only the OpenFX version. Everything should still open fine after doing that (it's working fine in all those versions for me).

You can download it here:
Download NewBlueFX | Free trial downloads of audio filters and video effects and transitions plugins for Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere/After Effects, Apple Final Cut Pro/Motion, Corel VideoStudio, Pinnacle Studio, Sony Vegas, Canopus Edius... - (http://www.newbluefx.com/downloads.html)

Honestly, it sounds like the install somehow got corrupted and a new install should resolve the issue.

Certainly Edward, but I'm in catch-up mode for a few days so will do it early next week. But for what it's worth, I did download & install the latest version some weeks back after you brought it to our attention, but only recently, perhaps late last week I installed an update.

Maybe this is what caused the crash as I did not open Vegas again until last Sunday when I encountered the problem.
