Anyone here has experience sending in their 5D for mirror replacement?
Any information on cost would be appreciated.

Hey there,

I can't give you the end-result, since I am still deciding if I really need to get mine fixed (cracked by a protruding part of an older Nikkor lens with adapter).

But I can tell you that over the phone, Canon quoted me $200-$350. A check with an independent local repair shop yielded a similar quote.

Good Luck!

Finn,

Do you know that what happened to yours is also what happened to mine?! sigh...

Though I don't use the 5D mk2 for photos since I also have a mosaic filter in place all the time, I just want to avoid the sensor being damaged by the shards of glass.

I had an old 50mm nikkor which I accidentally placed in wrong alignment.

Thank you for that cost information.

Finn,

FYI ,they received my unit and gave me a quote of $ 252
Labor and parts plus fed ex shipping back to me.

Hope this info would help you decide about yours. ;)

Thanks again,

I had an original 5D (no Mk) and one day, out of the blue and during a photo shoot for a client, the mirror fell out of its mount! Camera did not suffer from any drops or shock. It just fell out.

Quick search of the web to find out what t he repair would cost and I found that this was a known problem with the camera. Called Canon and they said send it it, the repair would be covered even though the camera was well out of standard warranty.

Sent it in to their Jamesburg NJ repair facility and I had it back within a week as good as new.

Good luck with yours!
