Sean M Lee September 13th, 2005, 05:41 PM What kind do you want? Over the ear On the ear In the ear Over the ear (circumaural) - Closed back style. These will block out some ambient sound. I've had good luck with Sony MDR V600s. I just broke a set and ordered a pair of AKG K271s. I can't wait to get those. They use a detachable mini-XLR connector at the ears, so the cable can be replaced for storage or if damaged. MDR V600 - $69 or so. AKG K271 $161 including shipping from DJMart.com. On the ear (supraaural (sp?)) I don't care for these, they aren't comfortable because they sit on your ear In the ear - I've got a set of Shure E4c's. They sound good and isolate very well. I'm still getting used to them. They come with a multitude of different sizes of pads, so fitting comfortably should be possible. $169 + shipping on ebay. The best thing to do is try on a bunch of pairs to see what you like. The sony's have a brighter sound than most of the German stuff like Sennheiser, AKG, etc... but that shouldn't be a big deal once you learn what is what on the set you get. Also, make sure that you get a closed back, an open or semi-open back can be heard by those around you as well. The closed back will help seal out the outside environment. Good Luck! Oh, there's more...when you're looking at the specs you will notice that the impedence is all over the place on these things. The lower the number the less resistance the higher the more resistance. More resistance will take more power to get them at their max volume. A lot of really cheap headphones have very little resistance, but most of the in ear style have low resistance as well. If you like to travel and take your headphones with you on the plane the low resistance headphones may sound distorted. I know this can be confusing, that's why it's best to go try them out at your local Sam Ash, Mars Music, Hi-Fi store, etc...and if their price is too high, go buy them online. They will make the E4c experience just oh so much better. This outfit is excellent in customer service and offers excellent product: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/earplugstore/cusfitearmol1.html They basically send you a kit which you send back to them after making a mold of your ear yourself. Then they send you the molds that fit ONLY your ears! Min Lee September 17th, 2005, 10:52 PM Creative makes a wireless bluetooth headphones. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these. I'm sure you can probably get better sound with cheaper wired headphones but it might be worth it if it does the job without the hassle of dealing with more wires. Dan - check out the 'Now Hear This' forum. There's been at least 2 different detailed threads on this very topic, very recently. rgds Sean M Lee September 19th, 2005, 05:19 PM My AKGs showed up. Very nice, comfy, sound great...quite a bit warmer than my MDR V600s, but still plenty of high end. A cool thing about the K271s is that when you take them off your head they mute themselves - Bitchin! You can also replace the straight cable with a coiled one if you like. Now, if only the Germans would make a video camera! =:o |
