I used to own a Canon and it came with software that you could control the camera via a computer.
I never used that software and didn't much pay any attention to it. Consequently, when I got my GH2, I utterly ignored any software that may have come with it.

Is there anything that would make a laptop+GH2 a "studio setup?"

I'm speaking mainly for stills here, not so much for video, thought that would be interesting too.
