View Full Version : Confirming the camera is recording...

Yesterday, I was handholding, viewing through an EVF and recording on a PIX 240…
Because there is no indicator in the viewfinder… I was having to look back at the cameras monitor to confirm the camera was recording.

How are others solving this problem?

I just received an answer by email.

'If you plug head phones into the Pix 240.
You will here 1 beep for start and 2 for stop.'

Thanks Bill - I was wondering about that... to the extent of building a rig with the Pix up front as the main monitor rather than EVF.

Should we be petitioning Sound Devices to include an option whereby the 'LCD' info one gets on the main panel could be output on the HDMI OUT?

Or petition Sony to put the Display Output on the HDMI only, the HDSDI only, or both? That wouldn't help me, but it's a thought. Darn, should have bought the 240 over the 220...

Check out page 3 of the PIX manual here - http://www.sounddevices.com/download/guides/pix_en.pdf

The LANC port can also be used for a LED tally light. I know not the most convenient thing but it will give you positive indication of record with a minimum of parts.

Brilliant... Chris.
I think I might have the parts in the basement.

I hope you don't mind... I placed your answer here:

Here's a chance for someone to make some money.

A HTMI cable and LANC cable wrapped together...
With a red tally light which attaches to the left side of the EVF.

I'd love to beta test... if anyone tries.

Don't mind a bit. Happy to help. I'll see what I can do about sourcing a suitable cable.
