I was going to buy a Velbon DV-7000 as I've seen a few people use this tripod with cranes and its quite cheap. But I just spoke to Velbon on the phone and the max weight the tripod can handle is 5kg??

I'd need at least 5kg of counter balance to balance my DSLR nevermind the extra 6.6kg that the jib weighs. Any ideas? Budget is around £100, looking for something to just make do before I upgrade to manfrotto gear really.

If your using a Jib please don't just make do. Get a good rock solid substantial tripod, you probably want a 20kg payload for the Jib, counterbalance weights, camera and it's accessories. It must have a decent spreader as well to keep the legs in position. The stresses on the tripod go beyond just the weight, there is a lot of inertia with large weights swinging around. If it collapses you risk your camera getting smashed into the floor or on to someones feet.

You might want to look at some of the tripods that are used to support telescopes as these can be very substantial.
