Hello,
I mainly use Panasonic camcorder TM700 which produces stunning 1080/50p footage.
I have seen many DVD-players in the market that advertise they support Progressive Playback.

I am wondering:
if I output my movies to 576/50p will they be playable by those players ?

Same goes for BDplayers, could output to 1080/50p ?

In the SD world 50p is not a valid frame rate.

50p is HD only will require a blu-ray compatible player.

Nonsense! ^^

I shoot sports at 720 50p and downconvert to SD DVDs and the footage is good!

Not nonsense at all.

It may be true the output looks good but is not 50p on the SD DVD.

SD DVD does not support a 50p stream. It will be converted to 25p.

what about BDplayers that support progressive playback ?
Could they play 1080/50p material written in Blu-ray format ?

Unfortunately 1080p50 is not in the Blu-Ray standard as of now. 720p50 is in the standard.

720, 50p is FINE for DVD! Experience counts.

That is 100% false information. A SD DVD can not present HD material.

You may use 720p50 as your source material but it will be converted to an appropriate SD format when encoded for the DVD.

The word "downconvert" is the key.
You really should listen to Chris, he is 100% correct

Sorry for misreading that.

In that instance I should have been reading more carefully. ;)
