Andy Wilkinson May 10th, 2012, 12:18 PM Impressive results!
Jon Fairhurst May 10th, 2012, 12:32 PM Very nice!
I wonder how it does with the Tokina 11-17 or Canon 10-16? The 5D2 version works great to about 28mm or so, depending on the lens. The 16-35 that was shown is a 32mm equivalent at the wide end, so it seems that the 7D filter is at least as good. But might it be better?
Steve Wolla July 7th, 2012, 12:50 AM Would this also work on the 60D as well?
Donald McPherson July 8th, 2012, 05:01 AM I would also like to know if it would work on the 550d / T2i.
As the 7d uses the same sensor and lenses would the internals not be the same for this gadget to fit?
Steve Wolla July 8th, 2012, 10:33 AM My guess is that it would work, for that very reason. Same sensor
Jon Fairhurst July 9th, 2012, 12:09 PM The 5D2 version includes a box that slips into the sensor area. I wouldn't assume that the 7D version would fit other cameras without making some "mechanical adjustments". You might need to file some slots to slide into the space. What's worse, the distance from the sensor is critical. There's no telling that after you slide it in that you would get the proper distance.
The good news is that the glass component should be identical for the various VAF versions. Once the 7D version is shipping, Mosaic Engineering should be able to release the other versions pretty easily.
Chris Barcellos July 9th, 2012, 04:21 PM I looked on Mosaic's page and they are indicating versions for T2i and T3i are still under development.
Steve Wolla July 9th, 2012, 05:44 PM but if they are the same chip, I wonder what the difference could be....
Jon Fairhurst July 9th, 2012, 07:29 PM On the 5D2 version, it's a piece of precision, specialty glass and a metal box section. The glass should be the same for the 7D and other crop cams, but the metal box section is probably different. It needs to slide in tight (but not too tight), and it needs to be at a precise distance, parallel to the sensor.
Ron Little August 16th, 2012, 07:53 AM Once the filter is installed, can the mirror work as before? Or do you have to take it out for the mirror to come down?
Ted Ramasola August 16th, 2012, 12:32 PM Ron,
The filter holds up the mirror and the latter won't work while the filter is there.
