I made a load of updates to my DVD "Reef Life of the Andaman" and am currently serialising it on my YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/bubblevision) in weekly episodes.

Today I posted part 3, which is about whale sharks. I would welcome any feedback.

I used an interesting process in AviSynth to upscale it to HD. The footage started out as 576i PAL DV. After grading, repairing etc. in Vegas, I bob-deinterlaced it to 576-50p with QTGMC. For YouTube I dropped every other frame and did a Spline36Resize up to 720p, hopefully giving it the best chance of clarity for fake (pillarboxed) HD. I can share more details if anyone is interested.

I released the whole 116-minute DVD in its entirety on YouTube. It covers a huge variety of marine life from Thailand and Burma. Everything from seahorses to manta rays.

I shot the footage for the original version of this video from 2001-2005. I then returned to it this year to add further footage from 2006, to make a lot of factual corrections, to improve colour correction and grading, re-record the voiceover, and upscale the whole thing to 720p for the web.

Of course it looks best at 720p in a big window, or full screen, and there is a choice of closed captions under the CC button including the names of all the marine life and dive sites.

This was a real labour of love, and represents a pretty big chunk of my life, so I hope it can be enjoyed widely. Feel free to share and embed it anywhere.
