Notice in XDCAM browser option for CRC test.. what is that testing? how much extra would that add to the down load time..
Getting very fast down load with 17inch mac express port,to ext HDD firewire 800.Just over 6 mins for full 32GB SXS 1 cards.XDCAM 422 UDF 1080/25p !!

It's making sure that you got a bit-for-bit accurate copy of your BPAV folder and files. Absolutely turn this on and use it.

I agree 100%. Also, check the box for 'Data Protection'. The CRC check happens after the copy is made and usually takes 15 seconds or less depending on how much data.
Some people are naive and think nothing bad will ever happen to them. If your living depends on this footage, then be safe and minimize your risk. I have experienced corruption from a simple copy & paste 2 times and once from faulty ram, which is another reason why backups are crucial. After the recent 2 corruptions, I always do a quick check in XDCAM Browser of my 2 backups. Checking that the number of bits/bytes is the same is not an accurate method because all 3 corruptions had an identical # of bits. If a clip is damaged, XDCAM Browser will not show that clip so its as simple as comparing the top and bottom windows for the same # of clips.

Thanks Steve
I found the CRC check doubled the down load time for 50mbps UDF 32 GB card.. but still approx 12 mins from 6 mins is still pretty good. How does the protect data function actually work.
Thanks
Robin
