Hi, everyone.

I work at a cerebral palsy charity where the iMac is going to be used by many people, some of whom have limited intellectual ability. It's important to me to get this computer set up with exactly the correct software and nothing extra.

I have installed the XDCAM Transfer utility. My habit is to immediately download all the clips into .mov format and store them on the internal hard disk. I have no desire to store SxS cards anywhere, or store the XDCAM EX footage in some format other than .mov.

I've uninstalled XDCAM Drive Utility and XDCAM Browser. Can I uninstall the FAM Driver Tool in ~/Applications/Utilities?

Richard

Assuming your workflow will only ever be FCP 7 and XDCAM EX then yes you can.

My workflow is FCP X, Motion, and XDCAM Transfer to get the footage into QuickTime .mov format. Is your answer still "yes" ?

Really you should be using xdcam browser 2 for FCP X. Make sure you archive your BPAV files somewhere as future versions of X may switch to native support. As the transfer tool is no longer supported it is very possible that a future OS update might stop it from working.
