A panasonic rep called me today and asked if I had any questions on the new equipment / updates announced at NAB. I asked about the software update on the AF100 that will include the ability to record 1080p 60 fps, and he said that it is scheduled for release in July, but that he didn't know what the data recording rate would be for this mode. I'm guessing 28 Mbs, but it would be nice if it was at a higher bit rate for better picture quality.

Follow-up : the rep called back on a different question and said that the latest estimated release date for this software is late May / early June.

No, Panasonic are charging $250 for the upgrade.

Does it have to be sent in? They should have had 1080 50p in the first place.

Update now available for download. Charge made if you upgrade to 50p/60p. otherwise free.

Panasonic have a cheek to charge for it when other makers like Sony and Canon are offering FREE firmware updates (7D, FS100 etc).

This will put many off Panasonic!

Has anyone updated with the 50/60p option? Are there any other benefits from this costed upgrade?
I'll be interested to hear your opinions. TIA

Geoff

Seems to be a very complicated method just to get 50p, and nobody even sells the damn thing!
