Something I have been trying to find for a while and though it seems to pop up in new cameras I haven't found an alternative to the Terradek for less money. I don't consider the Asus and BriteView as alternatives due to size restrictions. Would just like to have a way to send output to iPads etc. to have fewer people standing in the way or crowding the monitor.

Teradek is coming out with a $500 dollar version of the Cube in a couple of months that you can use with Livestream. Don't think it includes streaming to an iPad or computer display. So if what you are looking for is live streaming to a web video service provider you could do that. Also there are software solutions. Telestream has a good one around for between $500 and a $1000 depending on the features.
You are going to have to flesh out your needs as the Teradek products fill several uses with their products.
I have seen some people take the $300 to $500 home video streaming router/transmission boxes and hack them into a a video transmission device for video cameras but you have to get in and create voltage regulation and step up or step down voltage transformers and add external antennas to lengthen the broadcast range.
You gotta pay to play and Teradek is actually the cheapest game in town. When you get into zero latency transmission, less than 1 frame delay, the prices now are as low as $3 to $4 grand. A year ago, the prices were between $6 and $11 grand.
If you are using the device for on set display to producers, clients on iphones and iPads, Teradek is it. If you are broadcasting to video village with other transmitters you have to go with a zero latency device.
The Teradek Cube is a great product. The firmware has really matured over the past year.
