View Full Version : xf-100. video streaming?
Andrew Maclaurin April 18th, 2012, 12:38 AM hi,
i'm considering buying an xf100 for corporate, marketing and wedding videos as it seems the best camera for my budget and will complement my 7D.
i have a doubt though. is it possible to connect the xf100 to a macbookpro/pc laptop to do live streaming on the web?
has anyone done this?
how did they go about it?
thanks
Andrew Maclaurin April 19th, 2012, 03:34 PM has anyone even tried to stream from this camera?
i've only read one comment on another forum where someone wasn't able to. i don't know why that was.
anyone had any joy?

It's cheaper to stream through firewire from an HDV camera such as the Canon HV20/30/40 or Sony FX7/FX1000 or Z5U. With the XF100 you may need to do HDMI capture using something like the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt.

Pete Bauer April 20th, 2012, 08:59 AM I haven't actually tried live streaming but wouldn't expect it to be a problem. The XF100 has HDMI, component, and AV out so those signals should be useable the same as the equivalent signals from any other camera. Your computer and streaming software just has to be able to accept the camera's output. The info on connections is on p 124-130 of the English version of the User Manual.
Chuck Fadely April 22nd, 2012, 03:58 PM Here are some ways to stream from tapeless cameras: Live streaming in the age of tapeless cameras : NewspaperVideo (http://newspapervideo.com/2012/04/live-streaming-in-the-age-of-tapeless-cameras/)
I use an XF305 but it's the same for the XF100.
Andrew Maclaurin April 23rd, 2012, 01:36 AM eric, pete and chuck,
thanks for all the info. very interesting and useful.
have any of you used one of these methods successfully?
Joe Bigornia September 24th, 2013, 04:10 PM I am on the same boat as well.
Anyone know the best way to do this or anyway?
Bill Bruner September 25th, 2013, 06:27 AM Joe - it depends on what streaming service you want to use. For pro services such as brightcove, ooyala, dacast and justin.tv, I would get a $699 Teradek VidiU.
Teradek VidiU - YouTube
For consumer oriented services such as ustream, livestream or youtube, I would get a simpler-to-use $699 Ceravo LiveShell Pro.
