Usually, to install the Adobe upgrade version (CS6), it is not necessary that the older version actually be installed.
You'll just need to enter the prior version SN/Activation Key when asked.

Thanks! Guess I will go the cheaper route and get 5.5 even though I was planning on skipping it and going to straight to 6.

I expect Adobe have a lot of unsold CS5.5 disks to dispose of!

The Adobe disks work very well for scaring birds, especially in an Apple orchard :-)

And who said you must upgrade your plug-ins or pay for them to be upgraded? Nothing of the sort occurred with CS5 to 5.5.

CS5 is when Adobe switched to 64bit only...
that upgrade was murder on all of my plug-ins... still haven't recovered from it all
Premier,After affects and Photo shop... not to mention Hard Ware upgrades to add it all

There's already getting to be a FUD factor here in this thread. Let's keep it factual. Directly from the Adobe site, here are the upgrade prices:

From.....Upgrade price to MC6
MC 5.5......525
PP 5.5.....1049
MC 5.0....1049
PP 5.0.....1049
MC 4.......1399
PP 4........1399
MC 3.x.....1399
PP 3.x......1399

From.....Upgrade Price to Prod Premium
MC 5.5.....375
PP 5.5......375
MC 5.0.....749
PP 5.0......749
MC 4........949
PP 4.........949
MC 3.x......949
PP 3.x.......949

CLOUD
(Equivalent of MC plus the Cloud Apps, immediate updates/upgrades, probable additional apps later in the year...hoping Lightroom 4.x...and 20GB cloud space with automatic synching of CS files):

Introductory offer for existing customers as far back as CS3: 29.99/mo x 12 months = 359.88
49.99/mo x12 months = 599.88 for NEW customers

If you look back at the upgrade costs for the last couple of releases, they stay right in the same ballpark:
A Spring Surprise from Adobe: CS5.5 at DVInfo.net (http://www.dvinfo.net/article/post/a-spring-surprise-from-adobe-cs5-5.html)

That's what a massive suite of state of the art production software costs. In particular, I think the Adobe Creative Cloud offer is a pretty good deal. If you don't think so, then you certainly have the option to stick with what you have!

On your chart above, does PP mean Production Premium or Premiere Pro? I assume the former.

Yes, Production Premium. And MC means Master Collection.

Your chart is missing the best deal going though? Those prices really only affect someone that already has Version 5.5

If you have a previous version then it is a different price to upgrade to CS5.5 and you will get a free update to CS6 when it releases.

It worked for me as I have Production Prem CS5 and I paid $399 (NOT the $749 your chart shows) very sweet deal it seems for everyone if they act before May 6th

So just for the record in the past few upgrades I have never got an upgrade for only $399
CS4 to 5 was $599 as an example.

Good point, Dan. It'll also help those out there with CS2 who would otherwise be left out of the upgrade pricing offers. I heard about the 5.5 - 6.0 free upgrade at NAB and also get ad emails from Videoguys for that same offer (plus/minus a few dollars, good through May 6th) but didn't think about adding that info in my chart.

EDIT: Turns out the 5.5 offer at the Adobe site is kind of buried in the online Adobe Store:

Yes, I almost missed it and even had the cloud version in my cart.I do think the the cloud has some great merit (especially at $29.99 for the first year) and I would have gone that route had I not stumbled onto the upgrade to 5.5 deal

I already had CS 5.5 Production Premium, and pre-ordered today for the CS6 version of Production Premium. I am particularly interested in Prelude.

Has anyone else with PAU been able to download CS6 yet? I received an email this morning with my order number and instructions to go to My Orders but was disappointed not to find it in on my account yet. The support person I spoke to got the release dates a bit confused. His reply to me was the product hasn't "shipped" yet so I wouldn't see it in my account. I'm curious if anyone has had their order fulfilled.

Mike, what does PAU stand for?

I seem to remember previously (maybe CS5 or so?) that it took 12-24 hours or thereabouts after the official moment of software release for the downloads to actually become available to me. Not sure the technical reason why. Maybe check back a couple times over the next 24 hours and hopefully all will be well as it was for me. If not, please do let us know what you learn as the problem gets worked.

Post Announce Upgrades (PAU). I bought the CS5 to CS5.5 upgrade from Videoguys then filed for the complementary upgrade to CS6. It was approved last Friday and I got the order # reference about an hour after midnight. When I tried logging in to download during the day, the order didn't show under my adobe ID. I just checked now, which is about 23 hours later, no joy yet. Hopefully whatever batch process they have to submit my order to the Adobe website will synch by tomorrow morning.

My notification of CS6 upgrade came through this morning, so I went to the Adobe licensing site to upgrade and it was automatically set to send me a dvd, rather than a download. It's a little irritating, but no major problem, as I was led to believe that CS6 upgrades were all to be electronic only. Anyone else experienced this anomaly? I'm upgrading the Master Collection, which might be the reason, though my CS5.5 was a download.

I downloaded the Master Collection CS5.5 and it took over 12 hours to download - I am on AOL Premium Broadband service, which is supposed to be up to 25MBps, at the moment I get barely 650kbps. AOL answer to this is that they do say it's anything up to 24MBps. I would be more than happy for any software to be supplied on DVDs

Just dealt with Adobe to get Prod Premium CS6. They are going to mail me DVDs when it all goes through. In my case, I have to hand it to Adobe that they actually stepped up with support. I purchased CS5.5 (as a new copy of the studient and teacher edition) a couple days before the upgrade period started. They granted an exception for me and will be giving me the upgrade.

Well, further to my last post, a few hours after I ordered my upgrade and was informed that the disk would be sent to me, I found my account had been updated with the full CS6 download and serials. 3 hours and over 6GB downloaded later and I have lots of new tools to enjoy.

Adobe are such a refreshing change from the paranoia of Apple!

Got an official reply from Adobe, seems I may be waiting until the end of the week for some CS6 goodness.

"This email is in response to your request to get the download link for the complimentary copy of Adobe Production Premium software version 6.0.

We apologize for the delay in response to your request and appreciate your patience in this regard. After checking the details that was uploaded, we found that the complimentary copy of CS 6 Production Premium software was approved on 05/04/2012 that was placed with the order # : XXXXXXX. It usually takes 24 - 48 hours for the download order to be processed, as there are huge back logs on the complimentary copy request it may take an additional of 2 business days to get the download link to reflect under your Adobe account. We apologize for the inconvenience caused in this regard.

Please Note : The CS 6 software started shipping only on 7th of May, due to which you were not able to locate the download link as soon as the order was approved."

Dominic and Vincent, I'm so jealous ...

When I first read that people had already started receiving emails about the upgrade, I was upset I had not received one yet. After a bit of searching, I found the FAQ regarding the complimentary upgrade. (2 separate pages for copies of 5.5 bought from Adobe, and copies bought from resellers) According to it, it could take up to 10 days from the first day of shipping (May 7) to receive the email. It also said that North America and a few other areas would only receive downloadable upgrades, while everywhere else would get DVDs sent to them. (Wish I could remember the links)
So I wait and see...

LOL, the main reason to have kids. Kiddie discounts, yay!

Damn, Premiere CS6 is looking mighty fine. A bit Final Cut Pro X inspired at first glance.
I'll wait to see what you guys think of it first before I upgrade ;-)

So 9 days and 3 followups later I get a reply from Adobe that my order was processed and that if I couldn't find the link to contact technical support. Chatted with the support guy who suggested I install the trial release then use the serial in my email. The trial doesn't come with all components and is a temporary measure. I get passed to another agent who reviews it and passes me on to customer support. That was yesterday morning. Added the CS6 serial to my registrations. That night I check My Orders and the link to download is finally there. Not sure if it was "Next Level" that fixed it for me or the act of adding the serial number as there were no follow up notes.

Also learned that I could have ordered actual DVDs from Adobe Sales. Between waiting 9 days and the delayed ESD, maybe the disks would have been faster.

Didn't adobe state that it could take up to 10 days to receive your Complimentary upgrade? I barely just got mine also so i just have to wonder why the big to do when it appears they are right on schedule to what the said they would do?
