View Full Version : SDI and HDMI output in SP mode
David H. Brown February 22nd, 2012, 12:06 PM Hello,
I'm shooting a project next week recording internally in SP 1440, 23.98. I am unable to get a signal from both the HDMI (for the EVF) and the SDI or A port (for the monitor) at the same time. I am also unable to get a solid video signal from the VIDEO output. Is there something I can do in the menus to address these?
Thanks!
Chris Medico February 22nd, 2012, 01:02 PM David,
Do you have the output set for PsF? If so turn it off.
That setting can cause trouble with monitors that don't support that mode.
Alister Chapman February 22nd, 2012, 01:16 PM Video Out only works when the camera is set to output SD. When the Sdi/HDMI is set to HD you just get sync on the video out connector.
David H. Brown February 22nd, 2012, 01:25 PM Hi Chris,
The problem isn't getting a picture; the problem is getting a picture simultaneously through the SDI or A port and the HDMI when in SP recording mode.
I will try the VIDEO output with your suggestion. Or not...I just saw Allistair's note.
David C. Williams February 22nd, 2012, 02:58 PM Set Video output to HD Y. I have not tried it, but you should get a black and white HD signal.

Re: SDI and HDMI output in SP mode
Set Video output to HD Y. I have not tried it, but you should get a black and white HD signal.
But I need a color signal.
David C. Williams February 22nd, 2012, 04:25 PM Sorry then, your out of luck. SD colour or HD black and white.
David H. Brown February 22nd, 2012, 04:38 PM Alister is correct. HDI set to SD, I get a composite video signal through the VIDEO output.
Chris Medico February 22nd, 2012, 08:02 PM Go here and get the supplemental manual - Sony Product Detail Page PMWF3L (http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/product-PMWF3L/)
It will show you all the signal output combination in the different video modes of the camera. Start reading at page 20.
You will want to make sure your camera has the latest firmware (v1.3). There were some issues with simultaneous HDMI and HDSDI output with the original F3 firmware.
You want to make sure that SDI dual link ports A/B are set to OFF.
In the VIDEO SET menu “SDI/HDMI/i.LINK I/O Select” setting = HD SDI &
HDMI
Make sure 24 PsF is turned OFF
with those settings you should get:
Video recording mode to the card
SP 1440/23.98P
HDMI output will be
1920×1080/59.94i
Monitor SDI output will be
1920×1080/59.94i
Video output will be:
HD-Y (B&W)
David H. Brown February 28th, 2012, 08:48 AM Before we upgraded to the current firmware v. 1.31, we were able to get simultaneous output from SDI and HDMI outputs. Now we can't
"You want to make sure that SDI dual link ports A/B are set to OFF."
I find no menu item to do this.
"In the VIDEO SET menu “SDI/HDMI/i.LINK I/O Select” setting = HD SDI &
HDMI" This option does not show up in the menu anymore
"Make sure 24 PsF is turned OFF"
I don't find this in the menus either.
So, any ideas, gents?

Absolutely. That option is not available because you have the main SDI ports enabled.
Please download the latest OM from Sony and read page 115. It indicates the combinations of the output settings. Some settings you choose make others disappear.
The manual that came with the camera is now out of date since you have installed v1.3 of the firmware. The options have changed.
David H. Brown February 28th, 2012, 09:11 AM In order to access the menus the Chris mentioned, I changed the format to an HQ one, turned off the DUAL LINK and then, when I went back to SP I was able to choose" HD SDI and HDMI".
Thanks all for your help.

Chris Medico February 28th, 2012, 09:33 AM Awesome. Glad you got it straightened out.
I wish the menus would work a bit differently in that regard. Its not easy to figure out.
