ok I couldnt sell my GY-HD100 with a blown firewire port so I guess its going back into service. I am thinking of getting this.JVC Professional Technical Description page (http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/tech_desc.jsp?model_id=MDL101457&feature_id=02)
any thoughts?? I just want to use it for capture.

Why don't you have the HD100 firewire repaired? I recently checked with several JVC authorized service companies and got $300-$400 prices for my HD200. It would be a lot less expensive than buying another piece of equipment.
Good luck
