I see render lumped in with project files by default. Lets say 6 or 7 weddings in process (approximately 1.5 TB), hypothetically, if all render files write to that same drive my 2TB disk will be full. That is why in FCP7 I have always assigned the render files to another 2TB internal drive. I can't do this any more with FCPX?

As far as I can tell, not at the moment. What I do is assign different drives for different entire projects and events. In a way it makes everything easier.

My workflow is not to render since I'm using Sparse Disk Images for each new event on a MacBook Pro. If you're keen to render, there's an option to delete the render files after you've completed the project.

Are you saying you turn off the background rendering?

Yeh I have that turned off. It's a pretty cool feature, but just doesn't fit in with my workflow.

The laptop handles AVCHD natively very well, and can play back transitions & effects without rendering just fine (got the 'playback quality' option set to Better Performance).

I do what William does. Have a single drive for a single project. I know thats overkill, especially since most of my footage is 720p. But I like it.

Though I am getting a new mac book soon and my work flow will be changing.
