Does anyone have any experience with either of these wireless microphone systems. I need something that has a good range. I have previously used the Sennheiser Evolution series and have been satisfied but the antennae are not as tough as I would like being in the field all of the time. I really need to know what the effective working range of these two would be and if the ENG is worth spending the extra 800.00.

The rang is really good. I can go out side and still pick up the feed.I think you will be very happy with them.

The mics have a great sound and are pretty sturdy. I would get a dead cat for out door work, Pearstone Fuzzy Windbuster for Lavalier Microphones 9071830 B&H

The only complaint is the tie holder. I would get Pearstone Lav Mic Tie Clips for the Sony ECM-44 8101150-2 B&H clamps for the mics. I think the system is a great value and they are true diversity.

I have the Sony UWP V1 with lapel and XLR plug in module. I think it is a great system. I also have the Sennheiser G3 ENG with lapel and XLR plug in. I give the Sennheiser a slight edge in quality and it is more compact but the Sony has a great build quality (very sturdy) and for the money is a great deal.

If you'll have a definite need for the plug on transmitter, the Sony UTX-P1 in the UWP-V6 package is the way to go. It trumps the Sennheiser in mW output.

I was shocked at how far I could go with the Sony UTX. I don't have the footage online, but I could dig it up if you want to see and hear 400'+.

It's way better to buy the plug-on transmitter in the package, as later it becomes 2 times the price when purchased by itself.

Some have said the Sony doesn't sound as good due to compander artifacts. Plugged into my Panasonic HPX500 full sized broadcast camera, the bodypack transmitter and receiver in the UWP V1 sounded clear at over 200' (the yellow line on the ground in the video below is a tape measure).

I just grabbed one of the Sony UWP V-6 receivers to double check and it looks like there are no DC input ports. It appears to only be powered by AA batteries in a caddy. You might also want to look at some Lectrosonics which have external D-Tap to hirose. Pricey, but you may be able to find some used. The convenience of not having to worry about carrying extra AA batteries is pretty huge. You're making me miss my full sized camera with Anton Bauer Dionic 90 batteries lol.
