Can anybody expLain to me why Sony S x S cards use the Fat32 file system and not the NTFS file system?

NTFS is proprietary a Microsoft product. Use on other platforms must be done via licensing the technology from MS. FAT32 is built in to almost every OS on the planet.

To keep things platform independent FAT32 has been the file system of choice.

I expect in the future you will see a move to UDF for removable media of all types.

Both PC and Mac can read FAT32.

I don't like Fat because you end up with so many short clips. Also what if you are in the middle of wedding vows and you go into the next clip in the middle of the vows. Do you lose any continuity or drop words in the audio? Thanks.

No. The files will stitch back together with the xdcam software without any gaps or loss of information.

ALL file systems are organized into "chunks" of various sizes and names. Clearly there is no loss across "chunks" or file-based digital media (video AND audio and even still images) would be impractical.

I much prefer the FAT format of SxS cards to more proprietary formats. For example my KiPro uses Mac disk and file formats and codecs and it is always a hassle to import/convert the content into Windows (or Linux, etc.)
