Hi Guys,

I've an urgent edit to get out, and trying to get to the bottom of a rendering issue, which looks like it will take 24 hours + on a 7 minute sequence using FCP.

I've posted elsewhere on this forum , but as I've done a few things new on this edit, once of which involves using the NewBluefx plugin, to colour fix the clips, I've just wondering what sort of increase, I can expect NewBlueFx puts on rendering times for most of you.

Not sure if this applies to you but here is one thing we've found. It turns out that when you edit ProRes footage, by default Final Cut renders any effects that you apply in 10-bit mode. Our effects can work in 10-bit mode, but at the moment they are not optimized for it, and this can lead to the extremely long rendering times that you are seeing.

To speed up your renders, right click on your sequence (in the bin with your footage, not on the timeline) and select the "Settings" option. Then click on the "Video Processing" tab. Select the option that says "Render in 8-bit YUV."

After you make this change, you should see a dramatic increase in rendering speed.

Hi Edward,

Thanks i'll try that. Out of curiousity, is there much of a loss in quality, bu changing to 8 bit?

You'll have to compare but it should be very minimal - if any.
