Anyone submit a film to SXSW this year? Did you get in? Rejected?

Anyone just going to check out the films and meet people?

I was thinking about going and was curious.

Hi Oliver...we're sending a big crew of folks to SxSW this year (a group went last year too, but I wasn't here then). Frankly I don't know much about it and need to spend some time surfing their website. Though I'm certainly up for a trip to Austin, I have no idea whether going to SxSW will be worth it?

In general, I've found conferences to be hit or miss. I've been to some heavily-hyped events that turned out to be a dud...and some low-key events (like a recent workshop by Edward Tufte) that were awesome.

If anyone else here has been to SxSW, I'd love to hear about your experiences and whether you thought it was worthwhile?

Scott

Scott, SXSW is probably one of the 5 best festivals in the world to go to. Maybe must fun festival in the USA. You can tell they are good because they have had the sense and decency to reject every film I've ever sent them. :)

I think it's definitely worth it. Like Dylan said, it's one of the top festivals out there.

I would say it sort of goes:
Cannes
Sundance
Tribeca
Slamdance
SXSW
Los Angeles

** Anyone know if they've sent out the rejection / acceptance emails to filmmakers yet for this year?

You forgot Toronto at #3.
Tribeca is actually much further down the list in scope but gets bigger press due to high profile members.
There are several international ones that outrank LA and Slamdance.

Toronto is definitely a monster that I forgot about. I think it also depends on the project being submitted. If it were a documentary I would suggest: CPH:DOX, Silverdocs, True / False, Full Frame, Hotdocs, Sheffield, Edinburgh, etc...

I've also being hearing a lot about Nantucket Film Festival lately.

I'm still waiting to hear back from my film, but considering this page is up on the sxsw website, I'm thinking it's a NO. DANG!

Good luck to those who are in or haven't heard yet.

Why do you think this equals no already? I think some people may have got in already, and some haven't. I don't think this necessarily means you didn't get in Brandon.

I read on their FAQs that it's good if you haven't heard anything yet.

Also it says "PLEASE NOTE: This is a private link and should not be shared with the public." How did you find this??? lol

I say that because it seems so late of a notification but...
I found the link by searching: "Accepted" "film" "sxsw" " 2012".
There it was, top one.

This was tweeted today by the HEAD of SXSW Film, Janet Pierson:

"Notification by phone or email prior to Feb 8th - but not necessarily much earlier than that. Goes down to wire."
