Using the HPX370. Toward the end of the manual, there are various things you can do with an external drive, like format the drive to "type S".

Here's a typical set of instructions.

1. Switch to USB Host mode.
2. Connect HDD.
3. Press THUMBNAIL button to open thumbnail screen.
4. Press THUMBNAIL button and select HDD - Explore in the thumbnail menu.
5. Select OPERATION - FORMAT.

My problem is step 4. The second press of the thumbnail button only toggles off the thumb screen. Is there something I'm missing here, to continue on to the menu? Thanks.

Ok starting with the simple questions first do you have the hard drive hooked up to the right connector as there are different ones for host and device?

There should be no problems formatting an external USB drive from the camera, I do it all the time but when I do hit a problem it is usually because I have the camera in the wrong mode or hooked up to the wrong connector!

Thanks. It turned out the manual was incorrect. Instead of pushing the thumbnail button a second time, you push the menu button that's across from the thumbnail button.

Glad you got it sorted, I must admit I seem to recall pushing the wrong buttons too but it is all autopilot mode now and I don't even look at what they are called!
