My Fx1000 is no longer keeping the date & time once I remove the battery. How can I fix this issue without sending it in to a repair shop?

Thanks.

Marco,

I had a similar problem on my old Sony V1E. I wonder is it the same fix? See: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/sony-hvr-v1-hdr-fx7/480791-bizarre-v1u-problem.html#post1541232

It was a self-fix, you put a battery on the camera, then connected the camera to the mains power for at least 12-24 hours.

I hope it's as easy for you, this might save you a repair fee.

In most of the manuals Sony point out that if the camera is not used for a period then the on board battery will run down and the time will not be correct. Solution is as Mike says and if not used leave a small battery on the camera to keep the on board charged. Maybe do a reset as well when the battery is charged.

Most camcorders use a slow drain capacitor (instead of a battery) to retain memory when the battery is disconnected. Your cams' either becamed drained too much and needs to be recharged, or has worn out and needs to be replaced. It's common on PD150's and VX2000's that the camera needs to be partially disassembled to replace it (on a PC board). You can Google the repair for PD150's to see what is involved. Maybe the capacitor can be replaced easier on newer cams.
