Hello,

This will be my first shoot with my HMC150 and need some advice on recording format.
I have a 3hr church event to record and need to know if recording in HA or HG mode on a 16gb
SD card will be ok for the quality? I'm asking about these modes because it gives me longer
recording time. The other options are to record at the highest quality on multiple 16gb cards
or by a 32bit card?

Thanks,
T

If you shoot in the highest quality, a 16GB card will record for about 100 minutes.

My suggestion is shoot the highest quality, and pick up some spare SD cards.

Hi Brad

I shoot weddings in HA mode which isn't the highest!! It's 17 mbps and then PH is 21mbps which is a VBR which is supposedly the best!!
My i7 when editing multi tracks in PH mode struggles with preview a bit so I shoot HA mode and seem to get the same quality as all mine end up on DVD anyway...if you are going the BluRay route then stick to PH!!!

Make sure your cards are really good if you are recording in PH mode!!! With Class 6 cards I have had a few artifacts on footage in PH mode (only occasionally!!) but never in HA mode so buy the best cards and at LEAST Class 10 (Panny say Class 6 are OK but I have found otherwise) .... Probably the Sandisk top of the range are the safest!! Expensive but at least your footage is secure!!! I shoot up to HA on Class 6 Transcend cards without any issues but anything higher go for a much higher rate card!!!
