It never really dawned on me until last week...
This fancy-dancy new AF100 has the same old controller plugs as my old HVX.
I've had a Varizoom Focus/Iris/Zoom controller for as long as I've had the HVX.
Of course, a few seconds' testing and it turns out that all those "accursed focus-by-wire" Lumix lenses actually respond to the focus and iris wheels, and respond pretty smoothly, accurately, and repeatably... well, except for the the 20/1.7's iris response, which kind of sucks, and iris stepping in the lot of them.
Some performance results from the m43 lenses I have:
Panasonic 14-140 - smooth focus control, smooth iris with stepping
Panasonic 7-14 - smooth focus control, smooth iris with stepping
Panasonic 20/1.7 - smooth focus control, iris responds fitfully
Olympus 14-42 - focus jumps at extreme ends, smooth iris with stepping
Probably not news to many, but for those to whom it is... that's the news.
